L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele, the original family-run restaurant opened in Naples in 1870 and is famous for serving up the best pizza in Naples – the pizza capital of the world! So there has been much call for celebration among London’s pizza fans when it was announced last autumn that the Naples’ favourite was heading for our capital.
In all its 147 years, the restaurant has stuck to just one site. Until now, that is. The London edition of L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele opened at 125 Church Street in Stoke Newington this month. The team have installed a 2,300 kg pizza oven in their new Stokie home and assembled a team of pizza pros in a bid to recreate their perfect pizzas in the Big Smoke, where the concise menu will be based around margherita and marinara pizzas as well as rotating specials. As for drinks, expect wines from Mastroberardino in Campania, Peroni and more.
Marco Condurro, the son of the Director of L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele (Michele Condurro) came over in the run-up and for the launch just to make sure the pizzas match the Naples originals. Their four pizzaioli will be coming at the beginning of September and have all been trained and have worked in the pizzeria in Naples, so you can expect something pretty authentic here!
