    The capital’s upcoming culinary hotspots

All around the capital, regeneration and population redistribution are helping local restaurant and bar scenes to flourish.

If you’re looking for UK restaurant property, or you’re looking to sell your current property with the view to relocating, these areas should be on your radar.

Brixton is in the middle of a serious amount of change. With the rental market driving up prices, now is the perfect time to invest in restaurant property in the area before prices become unattainable for many.

With one of the most diverse offerings in London, there’s a cuisine to suit everybody, and if there isn’t, this is your opportunity to provide it. New openings are many. On the horizon are:

    • Boom Burger: Jamaican-inspired cuisine opening March 2015 next to Brixton Village.
    • Federation Coffee: The perfect, twee, quality coffee shop in Brixton Village market. Brixton doesn’t have a huge number of these yet, so a well-priced café or coffee shop with the right differentiator could be a good investment.
    • ROSA’s Thai Café: This small, critically acclaimed, Thai chain is looking to open a restaurant on Brixton’s Coldharbour Lane.

Peckham, also south of the river, is another area undergoing a lot of change. Perhaps a bit behind Brixton in terms of prices, rents are more affordable, and this may make it the perfect spot for the entrepreneurial London restaurateur.

The Evening Standard has gone as far as describing Peckham as the new “foodie hub” of the capital. Here are some exciting openings:
    • Pedler: Newly opened, this small restaurant sells seasonal, locally sourced, European-style food at reasonable prices.
    • Artusi: Selling delicious, hearty Mediterranean food in a small, elegant yet rustic setting.
    • The Begging Bowl: This Thai restaurant is a locals’ secret. Ever-busy, the food arrives irregularly and when it’s ready to maximize freshness and impact.

A transformational project of Boris Johnson’s, much of Battersea is changing dramatically. From the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station, new retail and residential areas, and the complete makeover of the 9 Elms area, this is one area of central London that is transitioning into a culinary hotspot. Here is a sample of what is available:
    • Street Kitchen Hatch: Healthy, well-sourced street food that can be ordered straight from your desk and be ready in 15 minutes.
    • Donna Margherita: An extremely authentic pizzeria that actually flies in some of its ingredients from Naples.
    • Supper in a Pair Tree: This is a pop-up restaurant with a twist, allowing customers to dabble in life drawing art class before sitting down for a rustic dinner.

    Stoke Newington

Dalston might be popular, but it’s already very well populated with great restaurants. Stoke Newington is just up the road, and has slightly less expensive market rents. Become part of the growing local scene:
    • Foxlow Steakhouse: Stoke Newington’s Church Street is about to get a high quality steak house from the Hawksmoor team. Book early.
    • Stokey Bears: Part of the ever-popular Burger Bear chain, Stokey Bears brings burgers and disco music to a small restaurant near you.
    • Cirrik: Stoke Newington is famed for its Turkish cuisine, and perhaps one of the best, most authentic restaurants is Cirrik.

From the south London, up-and coming-areas of Brixton and Peckham, to the rising east area of Stoke Newington, to the mid-transformation area of Battersea, there are numerous opportunities for London restaurant investment.

With London ever-expanding, new areas of discovery emerge rapidly, so ensure you discuss your options with our experts. Restaurant Property agents have their fingers on the London restaurant pulse, so ensure you consult them.
